Costa de la Luz (or "Coast of Light", in English)
represents nowadays one of the most attractive spots in Spain for
the Northern European market, whether as a holiday destination
or as a target for property investments. Not in vain it is called
the Coast of Light, for it is sunlight that bathes its voluptuous
and unspoilt coastline, even in wintertime. It covers two main
provinces in the Spanish region of Andalucia: Huelva and Cadiz.
This area is also known as the "Spanish Algarve" due to its proximity
to the Algarve in Portugal, in fact, only the flow of the river
Guadiana separates this Portuguese region from it's Spanish brother.
The coast faces the green blue Atlantic Ocean, offering some of
the most gorgeous white sandy beaches, the clearest waters and
the purest air of all Spain. Facing them, there are also lovely
Mediterranean-style towns, each with different personalities and
landscapes to be discovered. The weather is warm and sunny at all
times in summer, and even in winter, when temperatures seldom drop
below 10ºC, the sun keeps shinning incessantly. The bright
and pleasant weather of Costa de la Luz seems to influence its
people as well, since their charm and warm hospitality shines through
their welcoming smiles.
Architecture and culture are also two of
the many outstanding features of The Coast of Light. Influenced
mainly by the Roman and Moorish, the historical heritage of this
Southern Spanish corner is evidenced not only in its tiled squares,
peaceful white churches and ancient castles; but also in the
many festivities, religious and pagan, that constitute colourful
and inviting rituals that you just can't miss. Costa de la Luz
also offers a varied set of activities, for those who love nature
and for the sporty ones in the family. Or both! You can sail, golf,
cycle or just walk your way through the Coast, and also visit
the many nature reserves in the area, framed by the most beautiful
and exotic scenarios. Due to the enormous growth that this area has experimented in
the past few years, property investors have set a new target
in Costa the la Luz, which is still largely untouched, and an
important amount of inward investments in infrastructure and
developments have been started. The properties available for
sale on Costa de la Luz are still of a very reasonable price,
but have seen a considerable increase in value in the last two
years. This is now an exciting area for investing in Spanish
property that should prove a sound return in the coming years.
Specially since experts predict that big things are yet to happen
in the Costa.
It's no wonder then, that the secret Costa de la Luz constitutes
one of the holiday favourites for the Spanish, and now also for
the rest of the European continent. How to get to Costa de la
Luz There are two main airports in the area, Faro in
Portugal being the closest, just 45 minutes away by car or bus.
There are no customs or border controls making travel swift.
Several airlines fly to Faro from many airports in the UK and
the flight time is fairly short, whilst the prices can very cheap
if you fly by low cost air travel agencies, like Easyjet .
The second closest airport is Seville .The
recent inauguration of the freeway A 49 that unites Ayamonte
with Sevila, makes Isla Canela only one hour and quarter away
from Seville. A third option is flying to Jerez de la Frontera
further down the Costa de la Luz, an about 2 hours drive. See

Villablanca
The beautifully picturesque pueblo of Villablanca is located in the heart
of the Spanish countryside in Costa de la Luz benefiting lovely views
over the valley of orange orchards, olive groves and strawberry fields.
As the name suggests Villablanca is built solely of traditional white
Spanish houses that add to the natural beauty of the area when gleaming
in the daily sun. This tranquil location is definitely a place where
you can get away from it all; while away the afternoon sitting in
the village square, or relax drinking coffee on the cobbled village
streets with the locals whilst the horse and cart passes by. The
village offers a range of traditional bars, cafes and restaurants
and a supermarket.
Villablanca provides country living but with the added advantage
that the E1 motorway is only a 5 minute drive away. This links
Seville to Faro and making all the other towns and amenities
in the region very easily accessible. The busy town of Ayamonte is
only a 10 minute drive. Faro Airport is 45 minutes and Seville
airport 1 hour drive. There are numerous championship golf courses
in the region all easily accessible by the E1 motorway. Islantilla
Campo de Golf is just 15 minutes drive. There are many stretches
of fine golden sandy beach all away along the entire coastline
to choose from. The nearest beaches are Islantilla- 15 minutes
drive and Isla
Canela also 15 minutes.
Islantilla
The attractive Spanish holiday resort of Islantilla is located just 20kms
east of the Spain-Portugal border. The coastline is an endless stretch
of fine golden sandy beach complete with a delightful promenade perfect
for walking or cycling. There are numerous traditional Spanish cafes
and restaurants along the beachfront great for sampling the local cuisine
and the fresh catch of the day. The resort has a well established commercial
centre providing good shops and boutiques and other facilities. The
town comes alive in the summer months when Spanish holiday makers from
Seville and Madrid come to enjoy the area. At the back of the resort
is the popular Islantilla Campo de Golf development, which is a unique
27 hole course, combining championship standard golf with holiday home
complexes. Holes 1-18 are of challenging championship standard that
played host to the 1996 Tour Espana Competition. A commercial centre
in Campo de Golf is due for completion in summer 2004. Islantilla is
only 10 minutes drive away from the E1 motorway which links the major
cities of Seville, Huelva, and Ayamonte and
then continues into Portugal all the way to Faro . Seville airport
is an hour drive and Faro is
just 45 minutes.
Isla Cristina
Located in the western part of the province, in Costa
de la Luz , Isla Cristina is a modern town with a long seafaring
tradition, a great place all sorts of regional products, from salted
meats to canned fish.
Once an island but now surrounded by marshes this town constitutes
an important fishing port & popular summer resort. It is located not
far south east of Ayamonte .
Here, the visitors can enjoy many attractions. Namely, the magnificent
beaches and marine resorts, such as Islantilla, Centro, and Punta del
Caimán. The carnaval and
the Atlantic Coral Festival are also famous. In the township we find
the marshes of Isla Cristina Nature Park, containing habitats with different
salinity levels, where we can observe a rich and diverse flora, and a
remarkable number of birds. Isla Cristina has twelve kilometres of golden
sand beaches, transparent waters and three thousand hours of sun a year.
There are great conditions for practicing surf and other water sports,
as well as an excellent sunny weather almost all year long. There is
a seafront paved and lit, with Chiringuitos, cafes and restaurants with
patios surrounded by a tier of pines and eucalyptuses. Lepe
Lepe is famous as the strawberry capital of Spain, and unfortunately
its inhabitants are is also the subject of hundreds of Spanish jokes.
The main beach in Lepe - Beach of La Antilla, just 5 km from the city,
it's an open air place in front of the sea which counts with more than
20 km of littoral. Due to the growth of tourism in Spain during the
60's, Lepe and its beach, La Antilla, began to detach as a touristic
spot of interest. The proliferation of infrastructure developments
in the 70's benefited the area, increasing the flow of tourists, mainly
national and more concretely proceeding from the interior of Andalucia.
During the summer, the municipal government promotes many sport activities,
combining classic sports with new disciplines. The windsurf is one
of the most popular water sports due to the weather, so appropriated
for the practise of this sport during the whole year. |
